There is additional financial support for people with dementia alongside general support.
Extra hours are charged for more time spent on care. These extra hours are called hardship supplement. People with dementia sometimes require more intensive care: for example, if they have a severe behavioral disorder. In this case, the caregiver needs more patience or empathy when providing care. In this case 45 extra hours credited.
If relatives are caring for a family member, they can take care leave or part-time care leave under certain conditions. Caregiving relatives then receive care leave benefits. If the person being cared for has proof of dementia, this is possible from care level 1.
If family carers fall ill or want to go on vacation, they receive a subsidy under certain conditions to organize replacement care for this period. Depending on the care level, they receive between 1,200 and 2,500 euros per year to pay for a replacement carer or a short-term care place. If the person requiring care has proof of dementia, this is possible from care level 1 and you receive an additional 300 euros.
People with dementia or their relatives can apply to Volkshilfe for financial support once a year. You can apply to any Volkshilfe facility in your area. How much money you receive depends on your income and other things.
