Relatives are people who are close to you. Depending on the perspective or area of law, this group of close relatives may vary in size. Many people also count friends and neighbours among their relatives.
In connection with certain rights or eligibility criteria, one often comes across the term ‘close relatives’, which includes:
- Spouses and their children
- Parents, grandparents, adoptive parents, step-parents and foster parents
- Children, grandchildren, adopted children and foster children
- Partners and their children living in the same household
- Registered partners and their children living in the same household as the employee.
The care or support of relatives under care leave and part-time care leave, as well as family hospice leave or part-time family hospice leave, may be provided not only for the relatives listed above, but also for siblings, parents-in-law and children-in-law.
