Home help and domestic help

When household chores become too difficult, home and domestic helpers can provide support. Home helpers and domestic helpers help elderly or sick people to cope with everyday life.

What does a domestic help do?

If the household chores become too difficult, you can get assistance from domestic services. They will wash and iron your laundry and carry out minor repairs. The services and prices vary depending on the provider.

What does a home help do?

While domestic helpers only carry out household tasks, trained home helpers also support people with support needs with activities of daily living (ADL). A home helper supplements the care provided by relatives or friends and comes on an hourly basis to support people with care needs at home.

This includes tasks such as cleaning, washing, cooking and other activities that need to be done at home. Home helpers also help with personal hygiene and grooming, bathing and showering. A home helper also ensures that you stay healthy: For example, they make sure that you eat and drink properly and sufficiently and take medication regularly.

A home helper will also do minor shopping with you or for you and accompany you to the authorities or to a doctor's appointment.

The focus is on keeping you active and enabling you to do things yourself as much as possible. Promoting contacts in the social environment, with friends and relatives is also one of the tasks of a home help.

Who is entitled to home help or domestic help?

Domestic help or home help is provided to persons with a care allowance or persons with a medical certificate.

Promotion of home help and domestic help

Home and domestic help is offered by various organizations and private service providers. The services and prices vary depending on the provider. In some federal states, financial support or subsidies are available, for example currently in Vienna and Salzburg. You can find more information on fundings in the federal states under the following link:
