When a person needs nursing and care, the question arises, who is able to take on this responsibility. In Austria, 80 percent of people in need of care are looked after and cared for at home by their loved ones. Relatives take on a wide variety of tasks: They often run important errands, take care of preparing meals or accompany the person in need of care to medical and other appointments. They often take on the role of caregiver themselves.
You can find a summary of useful information for family caregivers in the Caritas brochure. It contains an overview of the regulations throughout Austria.
