Community Nurses are qualified nurses with a specific professional role: they provide services locally and free of charge, with a focus on health-related services. They work with particular target groups, for example, older people over the age of 75 who still live at home, or people with mental health conditions.
Community Nurses are based in various communities throughout Austria. They mainly support elderly people and their relatives. They act as a central point of contact for health-related matters, especially for people who do not use mobile services or other care facility offers. The work of Community Nurses is preventive in nature and includes so-called "preventive home visits".
Community Nursing aims to better meet the need for nursing and care in Austria and to improve the well-being of people who need support. It also seeks to promote health literacy and self-help among older people and their relatives.
