- extend the education period by one year or, in exceptional cases, by up to two years = extended apprenticeship period (BAG § 8b para. 1).
- complete certain parts of an apprenticeship, which are specified in the apprenticeship contract. This is referred to as a part qualification (BAG § 8b Para. 2). Such an apprenticeship can take between one and three years.
