What is a EuroKey?

A EuroKey is a key for people with disabilities. This is a free service designed to make everyday life easier for people with certain disabilities.

What can you do with a EuroKey?

You can use this key to unlock public, barrier-free toilets, for example. Such restrooms can be found in cities, municipalities or at highway service stations.

How to get a EuroKey?

Under these conditions you will receive a EuroKey free of charge:

  • You have a valid disability identification card with an additional entry confirming that you have a EuroKey need.
  • You have a valid parking permit for people with disabilities.

With a valid disability identification card, you will receive the EuroKey free of charge in certain cases, even without one of the required additional entries. This requires a medical certificate confirming, for example, a serious bowel disease or an artificial bowel outlet.

However, a diagnosis of dementia alone is not a reason for a EuroKey. In order to receive a EuroKey  one of the following additional entries must be present in the disability identification card:

  • Unreasonable use of public transport due to permanent mobility restrictions
  • Need for an accompanying person
  • Predominantly dependent on the use of a wheelchair
  • is severely visually impaired
  • is blind
  • is deafblind
