Euro-key

What is a Euro-key?

A Euro-key is a key for people with disabilities. This is a free service designed to make everyday life easier for people with certain disabilities.

What can you do with a Euro-key?

You can use this key to unlock public, accessible toilets, for example. Such restrooms can be found in cities, municipalities or at motorway service stations.

How to get a Euro-key?

You will receive a Euro-key free of charge under the following conditions:

  • You have a valid Disability Identity Card with an additional entry confirming that you have a need for a Euro-key.
  • You have a valid parking permit for people with disabilities.

With a valid Disability Identity Card, you may be entitled to receive a Euro-key free of charge – even if the required additional entries are not listed. In such cases, a medical certificate is needed, for example confirming a serious bowel condition or an artificial bowel outlet.

A diagnosis of dementia alone does not qualify for a Euro-key. To be eligible, your Disability Identity Card must include at least one of the following additional entries:

  • Unreasonableness regarding the use of public transport due to permanent mobility impairment resulting from a disability
  • Requires an accompanying person
  • Is predominantly dependent on the use of a wheelchair
  • Is severely visually impaired
  • Is blind
  • Is deaf-blind
