The Convention on the Rights of the Child came into force in Austria in 1992. In 2011, children’s rights were incorporated into the Federal Constitutional Act. The most important guiding principle – on which the law, the courts, the administration, and both state and private institutions should act – is: The best interests of the child must always come first.
