Pension insurance institution

In Austria, a distinction is made between different pension insurance institutions:

• the Pension Insurance Institution (Pensionsversicherungsanstalt – PVA)
• the Insurance Institution for Public-Service Employees, Railway and Mining Workers (Versicherungsanstalt öffentlich Bediensteter, Eisenbahnen und Bergbau – BVAEB)
• the Social Insurance Institution for the Self-Employed (Sozialversicherung der Selbständigen – SVS)
• the Pension Fund for Austrian Notaries (Versorgungsanstalt des österreichischen Notariats – VAN)

Since 2020, tradespeople, newly self-employed persons and farmers have been insured by the new SVS.
