You can find associations and self-help groups for people with dementia in many parts of Austria. They provide a space talk about your problems, engage in social activities, or simply get to know people. You may discover new ways of coping better with the challenges in your everyday life or make new friends.
If you do not like going out or can no longer leave your home, ask whether the self-help groups also offer telephone or video calls. Video communication allows you to sit at home in front of a computer, smartphone, or similar device and see the other person – or a group – on the screen while you talk. If you are unfamiliar with this technology, someone can assist you. There is no need to be shy: many people with dementia report having positive experiences with it! Participation in self-help groups is generally free of charge.
